During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dinosaur Daycare and staff will follow and implement the necessary personal measures around our sickness policy suggested by the Ministry of Health/ BC Centre for Disease Control to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
Before sending to childcare, parents must assess children daily for symptoms of:
Chills
Cough or worsening of cough
Breathing difficulties
Loss of smell or taste
Diarrhea
Nausea and vomiting
Staff must also assess the children daily for symptoms of:
Fever
Chills
Cough or worsening of cough
Breathing difficulties
Loss of smell or taste
Diarrhea
Nausea, vomiting
any other infectious respiratory disease
If your child has only one of the above symptoms without fever:
o Children have to stay home, and parents are to monitor symptoms for 24 hours.
If your child has two or more of the above symptoms, has a fever or difficulty breathing:
o Please call 8-1-1 for a health assessment
If a COVID-19 test is recommended, please self isolate.
Any child who arrives visibly ill will not be permitted to attend their childcare Centre.
Children may return to childcare once/if:
o they are assessed by their family physician or nurse practitioner
o it is determined that they do NOT have COVID-19
o their symptoms have resolved.
If a child is found to be a confirmed case of COVID-19, Public Health will ensure that there is contact tracing and management of any clusters or outbreaks as well as ensure access to health care providers and support for families and staff.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dinosaur Daycare and our staff will follow and implement the necessary public health, environmental, administrative, and personal measures suggested by the Ministry of Health/ BC Centre for disease control/Local Fraser Health authority and MCFD to prevent and minimize the impact of infection and spread of novel COVID-19 virus.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE OF CHILDREN
Parents are to spray and disinfect keypad before entry (sanitation station is provided at the entry door)
Children will be dropped off at the door where a staff member wearing a face mask will greet them and guide them to their class (unless a guardian is needed to enter. Ie. new/younger children)
Floor will be marked for social distancing guidance for drop off and pick up
Staff will sign children in and out
Children are to wash their hands at arrival and departure
Staff will spray/disinfect the children’s shoes upon arrival
Children are to bring bedding for naps in a bag to be transferred into their nap cubbies)
Staff, children and parents are to avoid close greetings
Children will also be picked up at the door, so staff will ensure all children have their outdoor shoes on, washed their hands, have their belongings such as backpacks, jackets and water bottles with them.
HAND WASHING/SANITIZATION
Children will wash their hands throughout the day following hand washing protocols (ex. coming from outside the playground, before any eating time, after going to the rest room, sneezing, coughing, runny nose, etc.)
Use of an alcohol-based sanitizer will only be practiced when soap and water method is unavailable. If a child needs to use sanitizer, an adult/staff member must be physically present to observe and guide the child of proper use.
Children are to stay in their designated class to avoid cross contamination
Children will be allowed their water bottles, but they must be kept in their cubbies and taken home daily to be washed and disinfected.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE OF STAFF
Staff will always wear a facial covering:
while outside of their room/cohort
picking up and dropping off children at the door
communicating face to face with parents
Staff are to spray and disinfect hands before entry (sanitation station is provided at the entry door)
Staff are to wash their hands at arrival and departure (20 seconds. Refer to posted posters
Staff are to take their temperatures and sign their self-screening form
Staff are to bring and keep a pair of indoor shoes and change into them upon arrival
Staff, parents, and children are to avoid close greetings
SANITIZING AND DISINFECTING
Staff will change the PRE-empt/bleach solutions every other day or as needed
Staff will continue their daily cleaning routines, disinfecting high touch surfaces such as tables, shelves, chairs, toys, doorknobs/handles, light switches, faucets, and electronic devices, and telephone twice a day or as needed
Staff are to wash their hands throughout the day (ex. coming from outside the playground, before any eating time, after going to the rest room, sneezing, coughing, runny nose, etc.)
Staff will wash their hands after handling any garbage, cleaning tasks, facilitating a child toileting/diapering
Staff will use gloves when handling children’s food
One staff is to be designated for bathroom transition to dispense soap for the children
Napping cots are to be cleaned and disinfected daily (bedding linen must be taken home to be laundered. (Do not shake linens and parents must bring them in a bag to be transferred into their nap cubbies)
Staff and Janitorial services will do general cleaning and disinfecting once a day (air dry at the end of the day)
Children will be encouraged social/physical distancing through discussions, games and social stories
Staff will spread out activities to promote self-distancing the best they can
Use toys that encourage individual play
Outdoor time will be increased
Staff are encouraged to implement activities outdoors
During meals, staff are to accommodate 3-4 children per table (food is not to be shared)
During nap time, staff will arrange the beds as separated as possible (head –to- toe facing)
Staff are to encourage children of minimal physical contact with each other
Staff will remove plush toys
Staff will remove dress up costumes, wigs, and hats
Staff will eliminate sensory activities such as water play, slime, playdough (Unless its available for individual and one-time use)
If staff choose to include some sensory activities, each child will have their own tray and once sensory material is used, it will be thrown out and children are to wash their hands immediately
Staff will limit unnecessary trips to the kitchen, other rooms and office to avoid cross contamination
Staff will maintain distance from other staff
No visitors in the facility at all times (excluding consultants who will be screened before entering)
Cancel or postpone special events such as festivals, holiday events, and special performances.
During a time of pandemic, these policies and procedures supersedes those in our parent manual and agreements.
Once the pandemic is declared over, we revert to regular policies and protocols.
